A woman is in non-critical condition after driving her truck off the fifth floor of the Zach Curlin parking garage Wednesday afternoon. Maureen Fitzgerald, 27, was visiting The University of Memphis campus when witnesses saw her Nissan pick-up fall from the top of the parking garage shortly after 2 p.

The University of Memphis is currently second in the nation in the yearly Hearst Journalism Awards competition. "This is the most Hearst awards we've won in a short period of time since I've been here," said Elinor Grusin, journalism professor. "And I've been here 19 years.

When she was a freshman, Rachel Robinson didn't have a car and could rarely leave campus. Still, the junior double majoring in creative writing and Judaic studies found a way to make it to church. "I didn't have anywhere to go but Barth House," she said.

Today marks the beginning of the 81st year of Black History Month (BHM), since its birth in the early 1900s. BHM is recognized nationally every February and celebrates the achievements of prominent black people in America. "Carter G. Woodson was the founder of Black History Month," said Linda Hall, minority affairs coordinator.
