When Congress moves from a Republican majority to a Democratic majority in January, there will be one thing that will remain unchanged: a bill being pushed by Democrat Charles Rangel. Rangel, the incoming chair for the House of Representatives' Ways and Means Committee, said he would again push legislation to reinstate a military draft for all Americans between the ages of 18 and 42.

Thursday afternoon, Walter Williams saw something he doesn't see everyday. While he was busy studying on the bottom floor of the psychology building, the junior psychology major was treated to a campus police emergency response, which left police searching for what they thought were armed suspects.

Seeing cracks in a brick wall isn't rare. But a hole in the floor is something completely different. When walking down the western hallway of the Theatre and Communication building that is what you see along a wall in the corner of the building. "I'm not sure what it is," said Kiri Taylor, junior theater performance major.

Students who needed to speak to a dean Monday afternoon had less than a 10 percent chance of succeeding. At approximately 2:30 p.m. Monday, only one of The University of Memphis's 11 deans was actually in his or her office. Many students have expressed frustration with the deans' lack of availability.

The University of Memphis student-run music label, Bluetrip Records, has changed its name to BlueT.O.M. The name stands for "Blue Tigers of Memphis." Although the organization changed its name, they will continue to offer the same quality of work that it has become known for.

Nearly two weeks ago, 11 delegates from The University of Memphis Student Government Association went to the Tennessee Intercollegiate Student Legislature (TISL) with hopes and dreams. Last week they returned from the mock legislature with a plethora of awards, two members of the executive council for TISL and an increased knowledge of what it takes to be a real senator.

To ensure that their nutritious needs are met, The Blue Zone, located in Richardson Towers, provides students with a variety of food services that include Quizno's Subs, Bene Pizza, a salad bar and an all-you-can-eat buffet.
